A man and a woman in Colorado Springs have been served with child abuse citations after a 2-year-old child consumed edible marijuana candy in their home Wednesday night.

The child was taken to a hospital, but did not suffer any injury, according to a Colorado Springs Police Department report.

Jesse Tamburo, 19, and Corinna Vanarnan, 21, were cited with misdemeanor charges of child abuse/neglect and were released, the report says.

The incident happened at a home on the 1700 block of Tesla Drive at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

The parents and a third adult fell asleep while watching a movie.

The child “gained access” to a single edible marijuana candy that had been left out.

When the parents discovered that their child had eaten the candy they took the child to the hospital, according to the report.

Medical staff at the hospital called police, who went to the hospital to investigate.
